Old Henry by: Joan Blos

Old Henry is an interesting story about a man that the community is not too happy with. He moves into a junky, old house and doesn’t take care of it at all. The community just can’t seem to figure out why Henry will not weed his garden, clean his hosue, and sweep the walk way. Henry is very content with the way things are. The people in the community give him such a hard time that he moves away. Everyone is sad and misses him while he is gone, even though his home was a mess.  This is a good book for children because it shows how two different kinds of people get along. They are very different and they must learn to get along with each other. Students need to learn to do that as well. Everyone is not the same, but we must accept everyone and be repsectful to them. This book will keep students engaged with its beautiful illustrations and with its poetry. The last word in the line rhymes with the last word of another line. This book is sure to entertain any classroom.
