This book is a very funny book about the subject that most people, except young boys, are too polite to talk about. It talks about humans, animals, and even dinosaur “dung”, and goes back to talk about early toilet paper and plumbing. This will really appeal to the boys in the classroom!

Escape from Saigon: How a Vietnam War Orphan Became An American Boy by Andrea Warren could be categorized as a biogrpahy, but I think it is better suited for a non-fiction/ informational category. This book is filled with maps, photographs, letters, and historical artifacts for children to pour over. My fifth graders loved this book. And, athough it wasn’t a quick read, they spent the necessary time to soak up as much information as they could about this Vietnamese child.

This book is written as a journal about loggerhead turtles. This book was actually written right here in South Carolina and published in Mt. Pleasant, SC. It gives many interesting facts, actual pictures, diagrams, and invaluable information.
