In this book, the characters are a community of field mice. A mouse from the city tells them about his experiences in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. The mice are so intrigued that they decide to have their own Mardi Gras festivities. During the party, they decide to make masks, and disguise themselves as other animals. The mice then forget who and what they really are. They conform to the specific mask they wear. In the end, they realize their true identities, and the masks are nothing more than a memory.
